Callala Beach sunset

Revisiting some older photos from last year.

Often, when going through a collection of new photos, I find myself losing judgement on how good a photo is. Coming back to these, I’ve decided that I quite like them.

This is Callala Beach, in the Jervis Bay Marine Park on the south coast of New South Wales. It’s a lovely quiet spot precisely because it is off a long road and out of reach of public transport.

Ibis in Detail

Whilst I was fruitlessly trying to photograph flying dragonflies, this Ibis landed on the railing, quite close to me. I like that you can see such good detail in its head and beak. They always look as old as time.

A little cheek

I was down at Sydney Park last Sunday. I had my camera with me but wasn’t expecting to actually take any photos.

Nonetheless, a young White-Faced Heron was on the scene, so the camera came out.

Heron 1

It was fishing along the margins of one of the ponds, there.

Heron 2

The plastic fencing in the background was put up to keep dogs out of the ponds, because there has been the occasional killing of bird-life there.

Heron 3

The little fellow was finding lots of little meals in the form of small fish. We must have had more rain than I realised because the water was quite a bit higher than I expected.

Heron 4

See it in action. It’s a quick little hunter – the fish didn’t stand a chance.

A short Blue Mountains trip

country roadMy wife and were in the Blue Mountains, briefly. This is just west of Sydney, two hours by train from Central Station. I didn’t get much opportunity for photography but I did come back with some photos.

For the most part, whilst we were there it was cloudy. And since we were higher up, we were in those clouds. Out in the bush, it is like being in another world.misty roadlichen

Sheltered walk

So we needed umbrellas on our bush walk. Still, we weren’t the only ones.

I don’t know what makes the marks on the tree below. It looks to me like a child pretending to write.

It’s been a cool summer in Sydney and recently in New South Wales and Victoria we had a lot of flooding. The river in the picture below was once a creek.
