Shakespeare, an icon of Newtown, is retiring after Monday from the King St bookshop Lege et Lacrima.
At fourteen years, his hard work has earned him a well deserved rest.
Shakespeare came with the shop when its current “owner” took over. His human minions have pledged to take good care of him.
His presence will be missed.
This mural was painted about 20 years ago (1990) – the painters never expected it to be there for so long but now it is hard to imagine Newtown without it. (Okay, not hard, but you expect to see it there.)
