Callala Colours
I’d never been down this way before, Callala Beach, part of the Jervis Bay Marine Park, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.
It’s a quiet place, and the enclosed bay means that the waves are almost non-existent, so it’s ideal for swimming.

There is wildlife, of course. There must have been thousands of Hermit Crabs on that beach. At least one Sea Eagle, which I saw with a fish later. A couple of these Pied Oystercatchers (how hard is it to catch an oyster?).

Nelson’s Beach: we went there for an afternoon and the landscape was a little more dramatic.

We headed south down the beach one morning and could see a town in the distance. We thought we’d have a coffee there. Alas, after over an hour, we were sooo close…
We did see a more appropriate form of transport.

On our drive back we stopped off at Minnamurra Beach, and off shore was this magnificent island. I always feel about islands like this that they harbour some mystery. They look like a place not meant for humans but for spirits, the wild ocean and the birds.

Oh! I’m going to Jervis marine park next week! Thanks for showing me gret places to visit. Where are you based then? I love the photos but will have to wait until I have speedier wifi to see the video and flicker collection! Sadly our travels in Australia and New Zealand come to an end in less than three weeks. Then it’s back to Uk! Thanks for following my blog all this time. Six months travel: it’s been wonderful!
You should have a great time, then. The coast is quite varied in that area, from scrubby to lush. We stayed in a house a Callala Beach. It’s worth noting that if you could drive directly from Callala Beach to Huskisson it would take about 5 minutes, but because there is no bridge it takes at least 45 minutes driving around that way. Nelson’s Beach is very close to Huskisson. It terms of lushness, the Huskisson side beats Callala. Chinaman’s Beach is also nearby. We didn’t stop there but it looked lovely. And if you come back north towards Sydney, Minnamurra Falls is beautiful. Didn’t go there this time but I have been before. We saw two Lyre Birds then, too. And Kiama is a lovely town to stop off at.
